Examining the Relationship between Nature and Mental health

Living in modern cities can make people feel disconnected from nature, and this could harm their health. Studies have found that people living in cities are more likely to have mental health issues than those in rural areas.

Many researchers believe that living in a city can have negative effects, but there's also a theory called biophilia which suggests that people have a deep, natural need to be in contact with nature. Going against this need could affect our mental health. However, scientific proof for this is still growing. In a recent study called Testing the Biophilia theory: Automatic approach tendencies towards nature, researchers carried out an online study to test this theory using three reaction time tests.

They found that people tend to prefer nature and avoid cities. Interestingly, it seems that people's preference for nature is more significant than their desire to avoid cities. The study concluded it found clear evidence supporting the biophilia theory, supporting ongoing research in the relationship between the relationship to nature and mental health.
