A New Relationship with Time: Tips for Creative Living from Morning, Sunshine

A clock against a wood background. Text reads: “A New Relationship with Time” New on Morning, Sunshine

Increased stress and caregiving have many of us struggling to think straight. I've been in my own mind scramble here for a while, and I've come to rely more heavily on list-making than ever before. In today's episode, I share one method that's worked well for me. (My mother recently told me she does this practice every night before bed.) This particular episode was recorded several weeks ago, so the mood is likely lighter than many of us are feeling today, but I'm sharing it anyway in case the ideas are of use to you today.

The End of Day List (Episode 61)

What soothes us? A natural response to feeling a loss of control is to catapult ourselves into a kind of velocity--internally or externally. But this season like any other is a marathon as much as it is a sprint. We are reshaping our relationship to time outside of time, and this practice can ground us in the incremental every day as a counterbalance to the inverse.

I'm currently writing a large project, three handwritten pages a day. It feels so small in its daily size and I could trick myself into pushing harder or longer, but I'm allowing it to grow and giving myself time to process it as I go. Soon the pages will fill a small binder.

Stitch by stitch. Page by page. Day by day - what could YOU grow?
