You know them from places like the Peabody award-winning Moth Radio Hour and NPR’s Ask Me Another, but first these performers found each other and live storytelling on the stages of New York City. Featuring Peter Aguero, Ed Gavagan, Ophira Eisenburg, Jen Lee, Tim Manley, and Adam Wade, this documentary offers an intimate look behind the scenes of NYC’s early storytelling scene. Now on YouTube.

Today's the YouTube release of BRIGHT LIGHTS!

(Words words words. I need to find some words for you. I'm trying a little lukewarm coffee and maybe the right song will shake them loose. No not that one. Something more gravely, with a driving beat. I know they're in there. Deep. Breath. Diving in for them.)

I wish we could be in a room together today, that we could sit close on a sofa and share stories. I would ask you about one of the sweetest times in your life, and I would tell you about one of mine. Instead I'm here, and you are there.

(Maybe you're eating your breakfast more successfully than I am.)

Instead I took the story of one of my sweetest times and tried to catch it for you with my camera and my keyboard, with my friends and their beautiful lenses. Remember the song from Sesame Street, One of These Things is Not Like the Other? In my films I'm actually trying to collect like things and string them together so we can pull the common thread into clear focus.

I wanted to tell you a story about the love of stories and about friendship, and I gathered together some of my favorite storytellers who have a common quality of heart. Their words will light you up, but it's their hearts that will really move you. It's so personal to me -- these friends and my love for them and all the moments we've shared and witnessed for each other -- it takes something I can't even name to share it with you. And yet.

Here we are, and here it is. You have always received me with kind hands, and I thank you. Please watch this beloved offering and share it generously. My heart to your hands. ❤
