Confessions of An Awkward and Reluctant Rester

I started Weekenders because I’m really bad at weekending.

My idea of “relaxing” is to wait until 9 am to “make the plan”, which hopefully includes some laundry-washing, grocery-shopping, some kind of “fun” outing or family adventure, time with friends, a home-cooked dinner and—oh, yeah—a nap.

Watching me during weekends is like watching Elaine on Seinfeld dance. Lots of sharp jerking movements and elbows.

And my focus on a weekly practice of rest isn’t because my life has suddenly slowed or chilled out—quite the opposite. It’s because my circumstances are quite demanding that cracking this code has become a necessity, not an option.

If you look at the list of offerings that make up our monthly digital kit, you’ll see the things I already use, like a monthly playlist to keep me company. But you’ll also see some places I struggle with and need accountability for myself. Take the monthly recipe, for example. When life gets full it’s often a challenge for me to think about food. I would happily try and live off of eggs, toast, and tea with the occasional salad thrown in if I could. But wellness (and my teenagers) urge more variety.

So this project creates some accountability for me, and it collects all I’m practicing and using into a form that can be shared with you, because I imagine I’m not the only awkward or reluctant rester out there.

Even more than a “how to” , it’s designed to be a source of solace and company during your times of rest, whatever day they fall on and in whatever pockets of time, great or small, they may appear.

Join us and let’s replenish and restore, together.
