GATHER the Movie, Going Through Transitions, and Why We Create
Federico Fellini said, "I can't say that a director can really know why he makes his pictures. If one knows it, I think he cannot make it." In the course of making GATHER I wondered constantly why I was making it. Why this, of all things?
Perhaps it's too reductive to speak these things, but by the end a few things came into focus. As a chronic mover growing up, I'm well versed in beginnings and endings. Hello and goodbye. Transition, however, is less in my lexicon, even though it is ever-present. Something is always ending, something else is always beginning. The very definition of transition. GATHER was a way to learn this new language.
So here's to season changes, visible and invisible, to firsts and lasts, the things we carry with us and how we carry on.
